How to create sound effect?

I followed one of the tutorials on the site to create a dynamic menu with input from XML file and it looks good. Now I want to further improve to add sound effect when the mouse is over the option on the menu. Can anyone give me some hints or direct me to any simialr toturial (preferably step by step)? Thanks.
