How to get rid of the background

im trying to use a spark thing i made in photos. but i cant get the background to go away on flash mx. when i make the spark on a 250px 250px canvas, the whole thing shows (the spark and the background) how do i get rid of the background with no traces of it to be found on it when i animate it.
