I.e. vs. e.g

Just a quick note about these two latin abbreviations commonly mixed up…

i.e.: “id est,” or “that is.” Use like “in other words.”
e.g.: “exempli gratia,” or “for the sake of an example.” Use like “for example.”

Yeah. So, never say something like…

Anybody can write a simple program, i.e. a “Hello World” app.

[whisper]Actually, that example sucks, but you get the point.[/whisper]

wtf?

i think that tip is useful, thanks nokrev.

I’ll sleep easier tonight knowing that. Thanks Nokrev

huh :?

random but hear hear

Go take a shower nokrev!

^:D
Thanks that info might be usefull, hehehe…

My whole freaking life I had no idea what these freakin’ things meant. Thank you so much. OMG

I hate it when my teachers would put that crap on the darn ESSAY PROMPT and I had no idea what the heak it meant and I was too embarrassed to ask because everyone else already knew.

I am 100% serious.

Thank you so much.

lmao

Another one…

n.b.: “nota bene,” or “note well.” Use like “pay attention to this.”

now that one I didn’t know about. I always just wrote “note”.

Jumping on the “my life is thoroughly improved now” bandwagon.

Here’s a fun one that I use a lot because I’m pretentious –
q.e.d.: “quod erat demonstrandum,” or “which was to be demonstrated.” Use at the end of mathematical proofs, or to sound cool when you’ve laid out a bunch of evidence and basically won an argument. :]

And to think, I always thought IE stood for Internet Explorer

No, IE stands for Internet Explorer, i.e. stands for id est.

Dude! Seriously! Go take a shower!

Can anyone guess what y.h.b.p means?

h.h.i.b.p. :open_mouth:

Oh, I just took a shower! I still haven’t put clothes on yet.

^That was a disturbing fact! :frowning:

Y.H.B.P. anyone???

Now, my friend, y.h.b.p.

You have been pwned, I’m guessing.
