The company I work for needs a cheap computer, just for our accountant to run QuickBooks on and whatnot.
The recommended specs are 2GHz processor & 1gb RAM.
I can get a new machine like this from Dell for about $380. Unfortunately, it has Vista, which I’m not to keen on putting on a low-end machine. Do you guys know of any other place I could get a cheap computer, preferably with XP as an option?
if you call Dell and tell them that you need XP to run certain programs, they should send it instead of Vista, i bought a laptop last year and told them i needed XP to be able to run all the apps i design on… so they sent me what i wanted. Dell does A Lot more when you call them then they do online. just tell them you’re using some obscure accounting software that only runs on XP… or put that junk on 2000, hahaha!
You don’t really need 1gb of ram 512mb is fine if your just running office software. There are some computers on there that are like 90$. If you need a monitor go to good will and get a crt for like 10$. If you need ram, buy some it is like only 40$ for 1gb(pc-2700 is expensive). Oh and I am sure you have a magic windows xp disk that will install anywhere as well.
So lets see here:
Computer - 90$
CRT - 10$
Ram - 40$
Total - 140$
Just get the dell its quality and you get good service and like haam said if you call it in your can get XP (which i would def do do not run vista with anything less than 2gig).
You shouldn’t have to even call them for XP. There should be operating system options when you configure your machine. I just bought a bare-bone inspiron 530s with XP on their site.
