Im thinking about

Starting a Gaming Center sort to speek here in my city. We dont have any, so thats a plus.

by gaming center I mean, PC games about 20-30 computers or so. Xbox lan… oh could you imagine. Not really into the details about how much xbox’s etc. how much does it cost for an HOUR, blah blah, just want some ideas about what people think about gaming centers, business ideas in general.

Lost

Well, I guess it depends on what city you live in. I know I sure as hell wouldn’t start one in my village, as it would probably go bankrupt in about…one and a half hours :beam: But if you know it’ll attract people, and there are going to be enough youngsters to pay for play, you could give it a shot. Although those gaming centers are very rare here in Belgium. At least in the parts where I live. The only places like that we have here, are small gaming centers in a chain of game shops here in Belgium.

If you do decide to go for it, I wish you the best of luck :thumb:

Yea, tons of kids here. Even older people that like to play games. I can set it up in a mall, but Im pretty sure rent would be like SKYROCKET!!

Well, maybe you could look for sponsors or something, like computer stores which would be willing to rent some computers to you in return for mentioning their store name or something like that…

I had actually talked about doing this with some friends of mine… way back… hmm… in 2000? After I got out of High School… there really isn’t anything close to that anywhere around here that I know of, and I’m in a fairly large city… It never worked out, though, mostly because we kind of forgot about it, and somewhat because we were broke…
I, personally, don’t think it would be a bad idea at all, in fact, it would be pretty darn easy to get a bunch of PCs on a network, and ghost them all.
I’m not sure what kind of liscensing thing you would need to work with, but you could, theoretically, install all the games on one server pc, and have all the others just run the one copy…
You could also program a kind of GUI, so that people (theoretically) can’t get in a screw with the machines, and mess them up… and if someone did you can always just ghost it again.
I’d always been thinking that if I ever get some spare funds, I might do something similar, but on a small scale… mabey only like 6 computers to start with or something, and team up with someone else’s buisness, like a coffe-shop, or game store, or something to get started.
You think of any of the ‘cool’ stuff yet? Name? Logo? Etc?

That would be cool considering I live in Arizona.

Maybe a daily LAN gaming cafe. You know, the usual, strippers and such giving lap dances to the star players that come in the cafe.

:tie:

LOL
grabs world map and searches for Arizona

Here’s a small list of the games you are required to have, and I’m sure there are more that I’m missing:
[]StarCraft + Expansion
[
]Unreal Tournament
[]Diablo II + Expansion
[
]Ragnarok Online
[]NeverWinter Nights
[
]Half-Life (Counter Strike, if you’re so inclined)
[]Quake (for the ol’ schoolers)
[
]Evercrack (I don’t like it, but you can make a mint charging by the hour for the people who play it a lot)
I’m sure there are more, but that’s a start.
You also should look into getting a coffee/soda/snack bar or something in the place, to give the patrons a place to refeul, and then they’ll never leave…
MWA HA HA HA HA!

:hint:

search for “HOT”

One word: Jolt.
The kids’ll never leave.

…or sleep

Last time I was in Arizona it was great. I woke up and went outside. the day broke over my face like a moist arse.

And I’m not making fun of Ariozona. I’m making fun of you. For gathering there.

Gaming

there is a game cafe here that does what you are trying to do. I would suggest finding some online and emailing them. Ask them how they are doing and what they are finding success at.

Is that “HOT” as in:

 • Gee, it’s “HOT” in here, lemme get a soda or something.

or as in:

 • Dude, check out that girl, she’s “HOT” !

P.S. Long live the new WYSIWYG-editor :P

I too am planning on starting one up after I finish college. I’d use laptops on a wireless 802.11 G tho, along with the computers on a regular LAN. Have couches and serve coffee and drinks. This is also going to be in the same facility that I run my web design company from and will be hooked up to a back bone of the internet (OB 12 connection or so) so that I can host gameservers for people online, and the patrons of the cafe will have access to internet game servers as well.

Also, patrons will have access to the computers to surf the 'net and chat with people etc.

why not. Did you know any owners of such Gaming Centers in other cities? might help to speak with one.
