Inserting Flix movie

Help Please,
I have Flash MX. I have a question regarding inserting a swf file (Flix movie) into Flash. I read the how-to by Kirupa. I’m not that great at using Flash yet, so please bear with me. I did everything step by step a couple of times, and when I press my button to enact the swf, I get an error box. What could I be doing wrong?

Second, is there any way to insert a Flix movie into flash without having to create a “button” to enact the movie?

Also, why do I need to use Flix to change my quicktime file into an swf? Why can’t I just use my quicktime file? Is it an issue of file size?

Thank you for your help. I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. -simone

Well we might need to see your fla to see what you are doing wrong. I don’t know off hand what Kirupa tut you are talking about.

Instead of using a button you could use the load movie command on the main timeline.

I don’t think Flash is supporting imbedded QT files just yet [?]

Hi simone,

Welcome to Kirupa!

I don’t have any experience streaming .mov quicktime movies, but to my knowledge you can not load them into a flash website or CD ROM. You would have to build a website that had html mixed with flash and insert your quick time movie in the html portion. I have seen some sites use popup windows launched from Flash buttons.

Flix does indeed compress the QT movie clip. For instance I took a 50MB Counting Crows video and compressed it to 7MB.

Flix takes the QT movie and makes it a swf as you stated. This makes Flash treat this movie clip just like it would any other external swf you create. You can load these into your main site by using the loadMovie or loadMovieNum functions using actionscript.

You don’t have to use a button you can just tell the movie to load when it hits a certain frame.

Hope this helps.

Fro a CD you could use a .bat to load the movie
