Ipod video?

I was just having a chat with a friend. I want to get an ipod video. The revised design alone (smaller than the large ipods, but larger than the nano) convinces me to purchase it. And its handy to have video on you all the time, even if it may seriously drain the battery when in use. There have been numerous times when music didnt satisfy my portable entertainment needs. While I wouldnt use the video all that much, I thought it would be handy having an ipod capable of storing a video. Especially for storing/transporting videos for projects. But then that’s the problem. My friend told me that the ipod is incapable of transferring video to a computer, it can only be transferred to the ipod then deleted. Is this true? I think this is absolutely ridiculous. They are capable of transferring both music and pictures to a computer, why not the video? The same principles apply, it can be put on the hard drive and therefore should be able to be transferred from it. I mean come on, at least my 128mb musicstick can function as a usb storage stick.
