I’m a newbie to Flash 5, in fact such a newbie that I have created
a new measurement for time. When they ask me how long a projects going to take, I say about 8 -10 packs of cigarettes.
Anyways, I’m building a address book in flash 5 and I’m having a
problem with the user being able to update the address book and save the update for future reference. I have bought 2 books in which have no refeence to this actionscript. Seems like a simple
task,however I have spent hours on the net trying to find some reference to this but have come up empty handed. I fhave anyone can help you’d be saving me a lung and prbably a hair transplant.
Anyway, doing this kind of manipulations require the use of a database, I guess, coupled with some PHP or ASP. There are 1 or 2 simple tutes on this board if you want to check them out.
And if it’s not enough, you could consider buying PHP For Flash, from Friends of Ed, which covers pretty much everything you need to know concerning that kind of things (not so expensive, should cost aroung 10-15 packs of cigarettes).
how is that Flash MX. Do you recommend it. I blew my 30 day download as usual before i can across this problem,didn’t use it much. I seen a couple of examples that came pretty close but I needed more then just saving a exec.txt to the disk. How is this Jsave.Have you heard anything about it. 10 - 15 packs a cigarettes, thats not bad. If ya think of anything else give me yell. I’ll buy ya a beer and a pack of PalMals,no filter. That’ll have ya yacking up a lung in no time.

Nope, and I’m not sure I understand what you mean. If you use PHP, you could either open a file and write in it, or write in a database. Have you decided what you’re gonna use?
And Flash MX is just a bit more practical than Flash 5, that’s all (basically, there’s an easier loadVariables function).

I think thats what I’ve been looking for. I left them a e-mail concerning the book.I hope I can add that to the cart:) Let’s see thats one book, 3 cartons of cigarettes and a case of beer:)
