Hi Guys and Gals, Our business has needs in the near future for a mathematical programmer/web programmer. We need someone to be able to think ‘outside the square’. The Matlab programming environment is need for this problem and ENGLISH IS Essenetial

If you can solve this problem then you will make the short list for the casual contract position, we will also pay $50 US to the first person who can achieve the desired outcome, or the correct answer.

This is the problem

Predator

A certain predator feeds on prey which inhabit 3 local regions. The populations of prey animals are shown as dots in the following diagram. Each day the prey population in each region has a fixed chance of increasing by 1.

Region 1 - prey population 1
Region 2 - prey population 3
Region 3 = prey population 8

<CENTER> </CENTER><CENTER> </CENTER>The predator requires 1 unit of food per day while hunting in a given region. If its food level gets to 0 then the predator has died. In each day’s hunting the predator has a 1 - 1/m probability of catching an animal, where m is the number of animals in the region. If caught, the animal is worth 2 units of food to the predator.

Alternatively, the predator can spend the day travelling to one of the other regions, missing out on a day’s hunting and using an amount of food related to the distance covered.

Suppose the predator is currently in Region 1 and has 3 units of food. Use stochastic dynamic programming with Excel or Matlab to determine its optimal strategy for the next few days.
