Hey Kirupians,
I always said Kirupa.com could benefit from losing it’s massive array of tables filling it’s source. Well, I don’t like to complain without doing anything, so I took the code from the latest tutorial, and redid it with xhtml and css.
After completing most of it, but certainly not all, I lost 18 KB, including all stylesheets.
You can see my version here:

This is in no way complete, I just don’t have the time to finish it, because tomorrow’s my last day of summer.
In total, it took about six hours of work. Not much for one page.
You can easily see that it’s not anywhere near complete. Notice the obvious bugs in IE (I’m sure they’re there, I just haven’t looked). I spent some time on it, and now I’m handing this to y’all, for whatever you care to do with it.
If you don’t use it, that’s fine with me. I don’t want to look like a jerk, trying to force you to recode your entire site.
In fact, I highly doubt this will go anywhere. I just want to show y’all how much can be saved by simply using valid code.
It now also works on small screens, like my cell phone, as an added bonus.
Again, you can view it here:

Thanks,
Jeff Wheeler
P.S. Most of the validation errors are caused by the code coloring. I didn’t mess with it, and that’s why it’s so screwed up.
