I have recently created a news ticker based on kirupa’s guide.

but I am looking for a way to pause the ticker when the user roll’s over the text.
I’ve tried using a hittest (_root._ymouse, _root._xmouse) on the newsMC, to set a variable to true, then using an if statement to prevent the timer function being called unless that variable is false, but I can’t seem to get it to work!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
