Okay so as you ALL know by now, I work at Blockbuster Video. I’ve been there for about 2 years and few months now (and despise it, but hey, for the work, it’s not so bad in this crappy town:P). At any rate, I am one of the best employees there. I say that with all modesty too; I am hard-pressed to say much about myself in that respect that isn’t true. I think the only other person I hold above me is this girl, she is really good. But, I rarely make mistakes, understand how to FIX mistakes, and am just dang good at helping people. One thing I think some people see as a fault is that I talk VERY fast. I’m just that way. It has nothing to do with nervousness or anything. But I tend to think of it as efficiency.
So the other day my Shift Leader calls me over, and by the tone I could tell it was a ‘discussion’ time. I dread that maybe she is going to tell me I’ve been written up. And then she does.
I received a ‘positive action write up’ for helping some lady. I don’t even know who. But apparantly she is very impressed with me; I am always helpful and nice and knowledgable. This was nice, but mostly made me want to know who this lady was. I have relationships with a few customers (know them by name, chat with them about different things), but her name was barely familiar.
So a few days pass, and then last night the Store Manager is working, and she calls me over, right after the District Leader had left. The district leader visiting is a big deal and happens only maybe every few months, and everyone is afraid of her. She always seems fairly nice to me.
So, again, I can see right off this is ‘discussion’ time. And, again, I get rewarded. The women had called the DL and told her how impressed she was, and so the DL came down to the store and gave me $20 in giftcards. In fact, I’ve never even seen these: they say ‘employee gift card’. Everyone seems pretty impressed that the DL did this, as she RARELY does nice things or shows appreciation to anyone (as with the company :P)
SO, I feel pretty happy that SOMEONE noticed my hard work. In fact, this is the 2nd nice thing that’s happened to me this year. The first was I was working on New Years and was chatting with some guy, and as he was leaving, he said I was really nice and gave me one of those old money-handshakes. You know, with the bills in his palm? Only six dollars, but that’s quite a jump from, “Oh, you can keep that two cents for someone else to use” 
In fact, six bucks anywhere is pretty respectable.
So, congradulations, me 
Second part of thread:
What do I spend this money on?
Remember, it’s only $20 and can only be used at blockbuster.
I was thinking Napolean Dynamite, Garden State, or the Seinfeld Gift Set (although I would still have to pay a lot :P)
Or maybe an MST3k box set, as I’ve wanted one for a while (but am disappointed that they aren’t seasons I guess, just sort of like, best of).
Or maybe I should pay off that ‘Almost Famous’ DVD my friend says she returned to her store, but it was never received…
any suggestions?
