Load external text into MC, not into main stage

i have a flash site with a cheesy sliding navigation. the navigation slides a 6 panel image, and each image has a dynamic text box sitting on it. the text boxes are on the “panel” movie clip. i used “loadVariablesNum(“sitetext.txt”, 0);” on the first frame of the main stage and changed the var of each dynamic text box. however, since they are on the “panel” movie clip, they don’t load. they do load if the text boxes are on the main stage, but not nested in a movieclip. how can i fix this?
