I have a flash project for my gaming site in mind that I’ve been mulling in my head for quite sometime. The idea is easy enough to execute using my standard php/mysql methods but I would really like to get some kick *** flash aesthetics to make it that much more amazing to my users…
My gaming site (Clan’s site) has 2 major features that most other clans don’t have:
1 is player statistics for our own clan. Is is mean to show off to would be members and/or competing clans to see how we are currently doing performance wise. There is a php script running on our server that is actively querying the server every 5 seconds or so to keep track how clan members are doing.
The other is based around the idea of our dedicated server. For those of you who aren’t familiar a dedicated server for us is where we gather to play our games. In this cause it is for HALO PC/MAC. There are hundreds online some general communities others clan specific. Ours is one of the clan specific ones.
So the 2nd major feature in our is displaying this information to whomever comes to our website. This shows what game we are currently playing, map, player list even intricate details about the gametype we are playing (health settings, defaults weapon setup, etc.).
Some clans either one or the other but very rarely, I’ve yet to see another, have both. The difference with our system is the ability for the our website to tell when a fellow clan member is in the game server. If it realize it then it keeps very tight stats on that player which helps in the 1st feature the other is creating a link to that member’s profile whenever someone checks out the server information.
All this I have been able to achieve naturally with the help of phpBB, my brain, php/mysql knowledge and experience. But I’ve become bored with it and would like to make it even better by being able to display all this information in flash to suit all this information in mind.
I’m looking for suggestions to create such a flash display. I’ve currently read Flash, PHP, and MySQL Integration Tutorial and it is definitely a great way to display player stats but as I mentioned in this post

I can’t get it to work. There will be various stats rankings that will be displayed 4 in fact, and I would assume each would have be loaded in a separate movie clip. As well as the final 2 being the information retrieved from that server which is also done on the fly. Each clip would essentially refreshed as the user clicks on the menu that would be available to them. Now is my assessment of these challenges ahead well founded or more difficult than I’m thinking. I know this is a bit of a long winded post and I sincerely apologize but any suggestions would be fantastic. Thank you and look forward to be an active participant to the community.
