Magazine Cover Design Contest

tell me thats a typo!
i cant believe i found a spelling mistake in kman’s post! anyways, great contest!, i might participate too!

That question seems a bit silly :P, these obviously aren’t going to be used for a real magazine, an 800x1200 image at 300DPI would be about 2.67 x 6 inches, which would make it more of a leaflet.

Well… perhaps he meant the equivalent of 800x1200 in 300dpi? I don’t know!

I’m sure a mod who knows more about dpi can answer instead  In the end, all I am expecting is an image that is 800x1200 pixels on my screen.

@krilnon - thats exactly what i thought, kman isnt gonna publish this for real!
loser nokrev!

DPI doesn’t matter for web images.

I’m in.

Yea guys… it’s 72 dpi, if you’re feelin frisky you can do 300dpi… just know it’ll be enormous on the web

Me personally I’d do it in 300dpi and then scale it down to help preserve quality though

I know DPI doesn’t matter for web-pages… I just don’t know much beyond that.

I’ve never done any print work, so I know nothing about it.

Well… perhaps he meant the equivalent of 800x1200 in 300dpi? I don’t know!

It doesn’t seem logical to convert directly from pixels to dots/inch, if you look at it with a sort of dimensional analysis approach. Dots/inch on on computer screen would be the same thing as pixels/inch, since there isn’t another unit that could logically be considered a dot. I’ve always thought that 72 DPI is an odd measurement, as that many pixels aren’t always contained in an inch on a monitor.

Are we allowed to use images not created by us? for example images from a game or movie poster.

of course, credit should be given when due.

EDIT: Sure :nat:

[whisper]I earlier said you can’t, but I figure it’s not the easiest thing in the world to recreate images such as screenshots, furniture, etc. [/whisper]

nice one kirupa! will be joining this, had my practice with a school project, a magazine;)

Could anybody help me? I can’t seem to atach my cover to the thread!!! :-/

Use the imageshack hosting button instead. After uploading your image (by pressing the Host It button), you can just copy the code they provide into your post.

Cool contest idea kirupa, nice prizes as well

i might give it a go :krazy:

Wow! Something to bring up my self-esteem. Also am I allowed to link my cover from my site?

And I hope this a start of my future in contributing…

      ...

wes - sure, you can post your image even if it is hosted from your site. The only risk is that, if your site was to go down unexpectedly, others might not be able to see your work

another interesting competition :thumb: count me in!
