Mask & motion path together

Is it possible to mask an image that is being animated using the motion guide tool. The problem occurs when the mask can not be created directly above the image because the motion guide is positioned there. Does anyone know of a way around this?

Just had a look my self and it looks like you’ll have to animate the object with a motion guide, turn this into a Movie clip, then mask the movie clip.
