100,500,1,50,5… what comes next? and why
What’s the logic behind this answer? Except that it’s the only number between 1 and 500 starting with a 1 or a 5 that hasn’t been written?
This pattern doesn’t really pan out…
[]100 - 500: Okay, 500 is 5 * 100… or 100 + 400… alright…
[]500 - 1: Okay… this is where it goes wierd… 1 = 500 - 499? Doesn’t make any sense from the last pattern step… but perhaps it will make sense on the next one…
[]1 - 50: Er… nope… 50 = 1 + 49… or 1 * 50… which doesn’t seem to have much to do with the other numbers at all…
[]5: Okay… so 50 / 10 = 5… still not quite making any sense…
Now, the only thing I can think of, is you need to put the number you either multiply by, or divide by to get the preceding number… which would make 10 a candidate… I guess…
100,500,1,50,5… what comes next? and why
I know what came next! 10 Posts of people who expected some logic behind it :beam:
and why
hmm, don’t know an answer to that one yet
Yeah, it seems to be the “Why” that doesn’t make any sense…
I would only guess 10, basically the same reason Pom said…
But there’s no valid reason behind it… it might as well be 5000, or 10000, or something else more bizarre…
lol:D nice one Mc
The pattern nis 100, 500, 1, 50, 5.
The equation behind it is 100 x 5 / 500 x 50 / 10… then the next number
The pattern for this is x / x / x /, therefore the next one must be multiplied.
The divisors and factors are 5, 500, 50, 10… seems familiar?
If you drew this:
100 500 1 50 5
x5 /500 x50 /10
Connect the numbers that are the same. YOu are left with 100, 1, and 10. Each of the divisors/factors aren’t the same; therefore, 10 must not be the next divisor/factor. None of the numbers in the pattern (100, 500, 1…) aren’t the same; therefore, 1 must not be the next divisor/factor. You are left with 100. And you know the next action you are going to do is multiplication (read above). So times 5 by 100 - 500
=)
Dunno, I can’t really see the flow of logic there, MTsoul, but maybe I’m just missing it.
I thought I was on to something using alphabetical order of roman numerals, making it 10. but that would have technically required 1000(M) to have been in there, so ho hum.
I think next number will be π! (-:
