I’ll take recommendations from anyone, but it seems like mlk always knows what the next great band is gonna be before I do. I’m mainly looking for British bands, seems as though half my music collection is British.
Here are some that I already have/know of:
Arctic Monkeys
Babyshambles (is there a full length album yet?)
Bloc Party
Coldplay
Doves
Franz Ferdinand
Kaiser Chiefs
Kasabian
Nine Black Alps (who I heard of from mlk)
Oasis
Radiohead
Razorlight
Steadman
Supergrass
The Frames (I’ve only heard “Fake”. How’s their other stuff?)
The Libertines
The Poor Kids With Guns (someone’s band from here @ kirupa)
Keane, The Streets, Maximo Park (very nice), Kings of Leon, Stereophonics. If you want to break out of the cycle a bit, check out The Vines and definitely Wolf Mother: www.wolfmother.com.
the first Strokes album (“Is This It?”) was seen by many as ‘the’ album to bring back that kind of rock sound, and you seem to like other bands that have built upon it…
I’ve got Blur, Gorillaz, Kings of Leon (one of my favs), all the Strokes stuff and Maximo Park.
What style is The Streets? I almost purchased one of their albums but then I read a review that mentioned hip-hop to an extent. Any better explanation?
I’ve heard good things about British Sea Power but haven’t actually heard their music either. Will definitely check them out.
The Streets (which is actually just Mike Skinner) are garage rap/hip-hop. However, it’s not your typical rap so listen to them before dismissing them altogether.
If your going to get a Streets album, go for ‘A Grand Dont Come For Free’. Clearly the best yet. Though you cant pass up the first one, ‘Original Pirate Material’ and the last [third] 'The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living.
