Controversial rapper X-Raided was born in Waco, Texas and raised in Sacramento. X-Raided (real name Anarae Brown) landed a deal with Black Market Records in his mid-teens and began recording material for his debut album, Psycho Active (1992), a record that was considered by some to be the “hardest ever” hardcore rap album. Indeed, of the 12 tracks on the album, nine titles make reference to homicide or mental illness. Moreover, by the time the Psycho Active was released, X-Raided was in prison on murder charges.
Arrested in 1991 (at age 17) for his involvement in the shooting of a mother of four, X-Raided was sentenced to 25 years to life. His second album, Xorcist (1995), was recorded mostly over the phone lines from prison.
