Need help with XML slideshow

I’m not much of an ActionScript-er, so hopefully this question will (a) make sense, and (b) be relatively easy to answer:

I followed the instructions for creating an XML Flash slideshow from here:
http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/flash/slideshow/

Now I’d like to make a tweak to it by adding a play and pause button. The idea is, the slideshow would start in a “paused” state and would require the use to click the play button to start the slideshow. They can pause at any time, otherwise, it would continue to loop and play forever.

Can anyone help? Much appreciated!,
