On the news!

Wow this is really funny and cool at the same time!

this guy was a stay at home dad. he saw in the news paper coupons for $200 off a brand new car that was 42,000. he collected a bunch of coupons until he had 42,000 worth in coupons for the car. so he went to the car dealer ship, the coupon never said that there was a limit on how much coupons that you could use. so now they are looking over the documents and all that mumbo jumbo… thats all i remember. for the full story, watch the news;)

haha, finally a moment when reading the fine print is in your favor. what a great guy for doing that. must’ve taken quite a lot of newspapers to get it.

i would buy all the news papers i could to get a FREE 42,000 dollars car.
:sure: :stuck_out_tongue:

i hope so to, the car dealer ship will be kicking them selves in the teeth :chinaman:

i never really understood the concept of coupons. if a company were willing to give so many cents or in this case, dollars just for showing a coupon, why won’t they just mark down the price automatically? i’ve had my theories like they want to know how many customers they are getting to, or it is just a way to boost sales or get new customers. anyway, i’m still a coupon-user, but i think the sometimes it’s just stupid.

Yes, it is a way to get more buyers and boost sales up.

A lot of times people only buy what hey have coupons for, but if they end up liking what they bought, they stick with it (sometimes), that brings in more money for the company.

Cha-Ching. For a few measly sents you can bring in some mucho dinero.

well, im not complaining, i dont do the shopping :beam:

i bet that guy had a scanner. scanning and printing out a couple of copies for friends and familly.

Unless he has newspaper papers to bring on, scanning and printing would not help any.

ooo ya i didnt thing of that:blush:

I always wondered about this, what if they jack up the price for let’s say $50 and have coupons for $50 so the only person getting screwed is the consumer.

yeah, i also thought about that at times. my dad rants on and on about it too. whenever he sees a coupon he’s always like, “yeah, they just raise the price that amount so the consumer saves nothing while the company is only getting richer”.

you never know. they probally do that so the consumer thinks that there getting a good deal and in makes the purchase.
never know what people would for a money

From a Retailer’s view, coupons allow you to easily track ad performance. In order to figure out if your advertisement actually reached the intended audience, and if they bought (with cc info).

in another life, I was a Regional Manager of Retail Shoe Stores…

Rev

hm…rev, that makes you older than i suspected. so you would know all about this coupon business. do they really jack up the prices and give out coupons to make money?

Now if you were going to spend that much ANYWAY, then it is a good deal, but to spend that much just to get the 200, is stupid, anyone with common sense shoud realize that.

thor:

first, thank you

second, of course they do

We used to get product in @ say $10, mark it @$80 for 6 weeks, then put a coupon out for $49.90 for around 8 weeks, then finally mark them down to $19.90 until they were gone.

Standard Markup (keystone) is 2 times cost = retail.

therefore, we were making a profit, even when they were tied together sitting in a clump on the bargain table in your local Mall…

:smirk:

Rev

wow, that’s a large profit, $70!!! now i’m starting to wonder what shoe store chain you worked for so i’d know whether my nikes or reeboks really cost $10.

Pretty much any shoe store, or any story in general. The store my mom works out sells things for like 10 bucks when they cost like 50 cents.

These are still standard practices…

If they are a new/hot style, then no.

If the style of the sneaker is a couple years old, then probably. If you buy from Kinney’s then definitely…

I worked for Florsheim for a while, Nordstrom for a while, Bally of Switzerland for a while…

then became a chef…

Rev

they most likely buy things by the gross from china and then just bring up the price.
