Over-Advertising

I can understand the need for advertising on the site and I don’t care about a few little banner and block ads here and there. I was perfectly fine with the one column of ads on the right. But two columns of ads?!?! :m: It’s almost as wide as the actual content area! I’ve always supported this site and its tutorials have been very helpful, but two columns of ads seems to be a bit of overkill.

The site was actually made wider to accommodate it. The width of the content area has stayed the same. I did this because the site was having too many ads, and I really hated seeing them in a huge scrolling column. I wanted the site to be ad-free once you scroll down one screen (~ 1000 pixels), and since each tutorial page is around 3 or 4 screens in height, this seemed like a good enough solution.

I actually don’t see any ads at all : ) Some css rendering problem or something but it’s just a blank bar.

… not that I’m complaining.

Ok, thanks for the quick explanation of what you did, I really appreciate it. Personally, I would prefer if the ads were only on the certain pages, but that’s only personal opinion. I was more surprised than angry.

@sekasi: I actually use AdBlock Plus to block the ads, but I don’t have it installed on Firefox on my Mac yet.

Ummm they have got bigger

how much money are you raking in?

pull out blackmail envelope

Same here. The internet has been a little more pleasurable lately

I haven’t been to the front page of the site in months but it has become pretty cluttered.

I noticed the same thing yesterday.

I wish we could rebel somehow. But the kMan has our hands tied with his cunning ways.

Heh, I don’t really mind. Like TheCanadian, I go there only once every few months.

Maybe if we actually wrote some more tutorials for the site/front page, we would visit there more. (Jeff, you don’t know how much I would appreciate a succinct “Intro to Django” tutorial, because I’ve read the entire Django Book, but I still don’t feel smart enough.)

I have like 500 tutorials in progress, but they’ve been like that for two years. Plus my IQ is already 87 billion so I don’t need to read anymore tutorials.

They’re way better writers than me, I promise. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you followed the tutorial in the Django documentation, about the polls?

Ive never even noticed any ads at all :open_mouth:

Well, there was this spam-advert for WoW gold…

Yeah, I’m good with Django and all, but the words of the great Jeff always makes things nicer.

Even though %40 of it is ads?

Not even ads can dilute the pure devness that is Jeff. (I should start a religion. :pope:)

By religion, you mean cult? :stuck_out_tongue:

Basically,

the fans care.

The guy raking in 50,000USD a month doesn’t need to. K-dawg is ballin.

I’ve never really payed attention to this all.
