Pause movie?

I want to pause a movie for say like 7 - 8 seconds in various sections…I’m running the movie at 30fps and I don’t want to fill the timeline with frames for such a long period in these intervals…the animation is like a slideshow that automatically loads the next slide after a period of 7 - 8 seconds…is there any actionscript code that could control these intervals / pauses? I really don’t want to mess around with the timeline.
