Junior New Media Designer
We are an integrated creative communications agency whose online area is happily, expanding very rapidly. We are now looking for another dedicated creative online designer/genius to join our growing team. Working on a superb variety of clients and projects you need to be able to design, build, educate and manage our clients ‘in’ the online world.
The Candidate
Be passionate about the internet, use it everyday for everything. Keep on top of trends through design portals, be very resourceful with google and forums to find answers to your questions. Ability to work well with tech and non-tech people. Have a passion in design and how technology and design can work as one. Have a can-do attitude and enjoy being part of a team.
The Role
To work alongside the Online Manager (glorified web designer - we try to avoid hierarchy and politics at JPC!) to initially aid in the design and production of websites but to soon be working independently on your own projects and clients. Daily work could include: design conception (brain storming, scamps etc) taking a psd design and purely building it in beautiful CSS and Flash, designing an online presence based on an existing print brand, managing hosting of clients, meeting with colleagues to discuss and educate how the web can be used, an animation for an exhibition projection
to name a few……

The Skills
GRAPHICS// ability to produce designs and then prep them for the web using the usual suspects in this industry (photoshop, illustrator, flash)
HTML/CSS// either you no longer use tables or are working to eliminate them. Using dreamweaver as a code-writing tool.
FLASH// the obvious animations skills, and some action script to build on. The ability to tween with code an advantage as is the ability to keep code in one place with the use of functions, though these are things that can be mentored.
EXPERIENCE// we are open minded. Passion and positive enthusiasm
Optional extras – useful but not essential
VIDEO// some editing experience, mainly conversion (if you can take a muxed mpeg1 and get it into flv format with audio then you know enough), resizing, ripping etc
PHP// we are not developers, but being able to configure a formmail script or any other script to use for our site a definite advantage. If you have MySQL knowledge then it’s an even better advantage.
HOSTING// we manage hosting for our clients, including setting up new sites, adding email accounts, basic support etc. The majority of this is done with WHM/CPANEL which is easy enough to learn providing you have a knowledge of how the internet works.
The Skills are varied, and not all are necessary, we are looking for a versatile all rounder who can deal with anything web related and we never know what the next brief will be. If you are more code based we can utilise your skills, equally if you are more design based we can develop your skills. You just need to see beauty in imagery as well as a fluidly coded page.
