the problem is small closed areas in characters filling, yeilding ugly results such as that illustrated below.
Does anyone know how this can de stopped? it looks crap.

That’s happening because your font is not intended for use with Flash. That results in gaps filling themselves. It’s not something you can fix, I’m afraid you’ll have to use another font.
make sure your using 8 font size with pixel fonts unless it says you can use either smaller or larger
