Please help - 3d cube idea!

I would love some help on this!!

If you look at the spinning cube on kirupa here

Well I would like to add movie clip images to each side.

Can this be done??? I would also like the camera or view in the centre of the cube - so when to move the mouse up it takes you to the upper side etc etc.

There is a real good reason for this for a client - but im not sure how to go about it - I know its all actionscript so im not sure how to embed a square image to each side???

Thanks in advance!!

Byron

you can, but not with that technique. You need to use a non perspective rotation which looks a little funky at times but can be pulled off well enough and supports images. There is a component out there that does this - I forget what its called but Im pretty sure its been brought up on the forums before.

That will get you a spinning object in front of the camera… I dont know about being in the cube. That would be stretching it (and would eatup the cpu I would imagine assuming a decent sized view)

Yes I thought it might but i need to try it!

Ive tried searching about but cant find anything - The idea is to create a flash cubic vr! Similar to quicktime — here

So really the back of the cube doesnt really need to be there! It wont be so big either!

This is quite important that it is in flash -

Hope you can remember soon!!

Thanks

the problem is you cant get (correct) perspective distortion of images in Flash. You can use masks to layer consecutively sized images to give the appearance of this but that is even slower to process. Flash is not the tool for what you’re trying to do. QT is a reasonable alternative as is many of the other 3D pluggins out there such as Macromedia Director-Shockwave.

Yep I agree with all that - you are knowledgeable on many fronts.

I have done circular masking already - but I want to go cubic to bypass the warping problem.

You see if the sides of a cube have the right panes (here)

then if we used a cubic scene like i described - the pictures would not need warping! its just the field of vision that changes.

I have been in the vr game for years - i know all the plug ins inside out.

But this cubic should work! see the jpeg’ed box at flashloaded

all we need is to plase the "camera in the box!

??? hope you can help mate!

Thats the one I was thinking of - the flashloaded example.

Like I said, you dont have perspecitve with this so there would be no way to see any more than one side of the box if you’re looking straight on to a side. Is that something acceptable? If so you can just take the flashloaded component and make all your exterior sides transparent. Effect done.

ok - i think i know what “I” mean!:cap: it is hard to discribe!

Thanks for your help!

You dont need perspective correction on this idea - this is only for sperical warping - a cube picture only needs to turn.
