OK. For this battle, you will use actionscript to calculate localized gravitational fluctuations and use the client computer to open a portal to a parallel dimension.
Either that, or you can just design a web start page. Here’s the deal:
Google provides its search functionality for cunning programmers and designers like us to use developing new applications. Well, for those of you who are not programming types, I have built a PHP connection to the Google engine, and will provide anyone who’s interested with a simple Flash template that has all the functionality neatly packaged and ready for your tweakage. I have also included a function that saves data on the server and loads it back when you return. It’s pretty basic, but it’s a solid foundation for some interesting functions.
So, basically, you’re going to design a new front end for Google. This is a pretty ideal application for a Flash battle, with real practical specifications and alot of room for creativity. I hope you give it a shot. All you need to do is download the template file, then modify it (keeping the data intact) and email me your final file. I’ll hook it up to the back end and make it tick. Then we can do the voting. And as a bonus, you’ll be able to access it as your very own search engine start page.
here are the rules:
Actionscript-wise, anything goes. modify the code however you like. What’s there is purely a guide. Just make sure not to muck up the data path to the server. It’s all laid out simply in the documentation section in the template.
do whatever you want with the layout, but the following things have to be a part of the final design:
- some means of inputing a search query
- a display of the search results
- the jpeg logo in the template file (i’ll provide a psd if you need a different background color)
- your name, nickname, online handle, logo, gangster tag, mugshot, or however else you like to take credit for your work
Since there’s two totally different criteria here, I think there should be two polls: one for AS functionality (what sort of interesting features can you come up with?) and one for design (how funky can you get?).
