Preloader & external swf

Well, this is my first thread ever regarding flash, I am quite a beginner…I have a swf file (480 kb) which is converted from an .avi file. I would like to insert a simple preloader. But i am not sure how to do it… Should i make the .swf a MovieClip then insert the preloader, or load it as an external .swf ? About the latter i do not have much idea… i found some tutorials and while trying to do it would like to have other ideas …Any help appreciated…Thanks…
