Preloader problem

I’m having a problem with my external .swf’s preloading. I used this tutorial to make my preloader. The preloader seems to work, but it only pops up for a few moments. I’m not sure if its done preloader or not, because when the external .swf plays its choppy. I do have some masking and alpha fades going on at the same time, and my fps is set at 18. I’ve tested it on 3 different computers and it does the same for all of them. Anybody have any solutions or suggestions? Thanks in advance.
