Preloaders

Silly question:

for a site that is about 1MB in size, do you add the preloader in the same movie or in an external one?

I have mine in the same movie on the first frame, then when it loads it goes to the second frame and starts the movie. But that still takes too long for the to load the site.

what do the pros say?
