Problem with ordering external files

hi … i’m using flash mx and i have to load an external file underneath the main movie… curtains need to open and reveal an image that is contained in the external file. i thought that loading it into a movie clip inside the main movie clip would work but all it does is replace the main movie with the image. i’d appreciate any help on this. thank you
