Quick dynamic text question

I’ve been using flash for quite a log time now, but i’ve never quite figured out when to enter things into the 'variable box or the instance name box.

I’m trying to make the text say ‘loading’ if the current number of bytes doesn’t equal total bytes. Would i use the variable box?! thanks
