Redesign of my portfolio site, need some feedback before launch!

Hi all,

First off, you all rock. I have received so much help from members here, it’s amazing.

Testing site: http://www.jbnight.com/test

Site is full-browser, meant for showcasing my photography. Obviously all galleries are the same photos right now, and text is all lorem ipsum.

The background images are a major concern. They are about 300-450kb at 1600x1200. I want people to appreciate film grain the way I do, so the backgrounds will be 100% resolution crops of film scans. I will probably have about 20 different ones, and I’m working on randomizing it. They should scale proportionally on larger monitors, but I’m having trouble getting that to work. Is that too big? Should I stick to maybe one shot per gallery? I refuse to compress them anymore, then you see jpeg artifacts not grain structure. Am I killing my site for something personal that others won’t appreciate? Be honest!

Play with resizing and let me know what you think. Also, what about the preloader? Is it obvious enough, is it too distracting? I hate preloaders that load over the image or move your eye too much. The image area is sacred to me.

Navigation thoughts? Design? Balance? Speed? Etc.?

Thanks again everyone, curious to hear what you have to say.

I’m hoping to launch on November 2nd!
