Reinstall ie 6 after having ie 7

Dear Mr Gates

I downloaded and installed ie7 beta - for testing purposes. Then I uninstalled it and tried to reinstall ie6, but get the message: Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup Cannot Continue.

I need ie6, and would ideally have ie6 and 7 installed for compatibility testing. So how do I get ie6 back and then how can i install ie7 again without it overwriting ie6?

I look forward to hearing from you soon…

I installed IE 7 awhile back. All I did was uninstall it through the control panels add or remove programs and I didn’t have to reinstall ie 6…it was just there. Make sure to check the “Show Updates” check box. Make sure all IE 7 items are gone.

hth

der - silly me. didn’t think to check if it was still there!

what about having both ie6 and 7 on the same machine?

Unpossible

There is always a way…

If it is that important, partition and dual boot the PC. Then, install IE 7 on one, and IE 6 on the other. One machine, with both…

Obviously if you do this just for “compatibility” testing, you should be shot.

… But you have to have two operating systems for that. Try this:

Download IE7, but don’t run the installer.
Create a folder called ‘ie7’ or something in your Internet Explorer folder.
Extract the files from the installer (that you downloaded) into the ie7 folder.
Create a blank file called ‘iexplore.exe.local’ in the ie7 folder.
Create a shortcut to the ‘iexplore.exe’ file in the ie7 folder and run it.
(Adapted from this.)

… Should work.

its not me that needs shooting its my client. still its better than having to reinstall every time or buy a new machine.

thanks guys. will give that a go…
