My PC has been running sluggish lately, and I’ve ran checks with Bazooka, SpySweeper (a CNET award-winning software if you haven’t heard of it), SpybotSD, and AdAware, but none of them detect anything. Applications continue to run “out of memory” when a week ago they ran fine.
So I went into the processes list in the Task Manager of XP Home, and everything there checked out except “Remote Meow.exe” which was not detected by anything. I even did a google search and I did not come up with anything but toy cats with remotes.
Does anyone know where I can find details of this application and where I can find instructions to safely remove it?
Well, that doesn’t sound like spyware or adware to me. It may be a trojan. You should run a virus scan on your computer. Also, if you run msconfig, go to the Startup tab and look for the program there. If you find it, simply uncheck it and restart your computer. After, you should run the virus scan (again if need be).
download AVG. http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php and install it. Restart your comp into safemode and run the program. If that doesn’t work then download a trojan detecter (most trojans aren’t detected by virus scanners) Anti-trojan is a good one. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/ For the trojan, try it once with your computer in normal mode. If that doesn’t work then try it in safe-mode.
