Sliding file system help

I am attempting to make a sliding file system using the sliding example here on kirupa. I want to adapt it to function like the sliding split frame file system on my IBook. The data will be called from XML on a server, but I am trying to to figure out how to incorporate the functionality of the sliding sub directory arrows on the MAC. Any help would be super appreciated!
