Is it possible to assign button behavior to a single word or a few words in a static text field, besides html anchor tags? For example, I’d like to click on a word and load an external swf into a movie clip.

With a little trick:)
Make a “blank” button (ie only define the hitarea of the button), place that over the word you want and give the button the actions you want.
Or, make a movieclip, alpha 0, place it and assign the actions to the mc.
