Yep, I really like yours, Eilsoe. Is that kind of thing tutorializable? Cos I’d be interested :beam:
Well I figured now the shortlist has been made, I might as well post all the critiques I wrote. Lost, Eilsoe, Dan et al, yours are in here too.
L0stpr0fet: Nice colour scheme and 3D text, however the background seems a little busy.
TheRedGuards: An interesting concept, but the text is a little blurred and difficult to read.
IshiXP: Static but simple, and looks very eyecatching, even though I’m not a fan of green. Kind of reminds me of The Matrix. Nice shading.
Mista Bliss: The pig that follows the cursor is a nice touch, but the graphics are little busy and some of the pictures are a bit choppy. I’m assuming that they move according to a Random Motion script, which is nicely done.
Tstefan: Nicely animated, and very smooth, but is also very small and doesn’t really do much. It’s difficult to see the blue circles against the background, and the yelloe circles don’t seem to go either.
Prankster: A nice idea, but I would have liked to have seen more change on the lava blobs rather than what looks like a simple motion tween going round and round.
Mindheavy: A very nice collage of images, put together well. I would have liked to have seen this animated.
David: A really cool idea, and well animated, I would just like the graphics and text to be a little smoother.
Kajinku 1: Simple with good choice of colours. The name is difficult to read against the dark background though.
*Kajinku 2: Beautiful picture, clear and readable. I love the cheeky expression on that frog.
The Mechanist: Obviously inspired by The Matrix, it’s a good attempt at the falling text. The footer is a little dark however, and the text doesn’t stand out well for me.
*Mdipi: Again very clean and simple, but a great picture and the scanlines break it up well.
RedViper: Very dark, you can barely read the name to the top right. However the background artwork is very interesting.
Daveman: A simple concept, and very cleanly animated with the satellite dish.
*Eilsoe 1: Beautiful background work and good colours. I would love to see the crosshair round the box animated - blinking or moveable…
Eilsoe 2: Nice blending work again with the image, very minimalist, though the text isn’t very clear.
Jerry 1: Very smooth animation work between levels, but the pixellated blocks look too big to my eye.
Jerry 2: Very eyecatching, and a nice effect on the rollover. The only strange thing is when you keep the mouse over the footer, you can’t read the text as it goes in and out too quickly.
*Markcq 1: Excellently done hangman game, just a shame that the questions are randomised. Very well thought out.
Markcq 2: Interesting effects with the boxes on the rollover, but a little bland.
Novatake: Very good spinning wireframe, but the boxes can be difficult to clear. It takes a long time to manage to read the text underneath, and when the boxes are in place the white text looks a little strange.
*ComicGeek: Very impressive, not only can the bouncing balls follow the mouse they can also be blown up. If you look carefully they even assume a worried expression when they’re about to be blasted, and you can’t get the last one!
c!rYx: Another lovely picture background. Good shading and choice of colours.
*FluidOne 1: Very well done, especially as it has been done with the drawing API. Good smooth effect, except it goes a bit jerky when forced into a corner.
FluidOne 2: Similar to the first, again very well coded.
Squid: It’s a little busy to my mind, especially when all the squids start moving. It seems a little intense.
UncleGuito: Very dark, and again obviously inspired by the Matrix films. A very good effect with the text though.
Fester 8542: Disturbing! Clear and to the point.
Jubba: Bonus points for comedy value. Very clear message with this one, but more for informative purposes than aesthetic pleasure.
*RvGaTe: A very clever little script, with a smooth effect and good easing. Nicely done.
Cubed: A very good scripted footer, smooth and quick.
RussianBeer: 2 pixels too big? But if allowed, this is a very nice image that catches the attention. Is it a fish in the middle? Difficult to tell, but nice and colourful.
Yoshi 1: Similar to Mariofan’s footer… The grapics seem a little small though, and it’s awkward sometimes to differentiate between the objects in it.
Yoshi 2: Very busy. The text is a little jagged.
Zylum: Really really clever. Great interaction and even playability. It’s fun to set up the little lifeforms and watch them grow. And then get eaten. This could entertain for hours.
DarkStarClone: Beautiful rippling grid on this, works very well and such a small file!
Fred: Again some nice little interaction here where you can display your own text. However the buttons are difficult to catch, especially Reset.
Nerux: Small but perfectly formed. Great 3D work in there, and good colouring.
Mariofan: Shame it’s not interactive. But nicely drawn, just like the original games. Clean looping as well, can’t see the join.
Lava: Nice work with the hexagons and moving background, simple to use. Would be nice if the hover text captions didn’t go so far off the page.
Supree 1: Very good light effect on the character and background. The 3D text is clean and readable.
Supree 2: Nice idea, would be good if you could interact and drag the characters floating there. They look a bit obviously cut out though and jagged. Not sure what the point is.
OddIn 1: Nice scripting. Minimalist design, but clean and simple.
OddIn 2: Again very simple, but clever and quite funny too. Good animation of the cigarette.
Ahmed 1: Brilliantly done. Easy to use, and since it cookies your PC, it remembered your design. Great work.
Senocular: Scary looking eyes. Nice colour job on the picture.
BigStu80: A very good effect, that you can interact with in a variety of ways.
Simple, but effective.
GloryBe: Bold colour scheme, stands out really well. Nice effect with the gun and sound, but no fire?
UncleGuito 2: Nice and calming, although the animation and fades are a bit jerky. They could do with being smoother.
Hawk: Grunge style works nicely, good colouring and not too busy.
Asphaltcowboy: Some good anime images in here, well drawn and smooth transitions. Nice effect when he shoots the gun.
Big Al 1: More Matrix. Though the dropping text here is one of the best I’ve seen. It stands out well and the font is great.
Big Al 2: Great fun! People could happily spend ages playing with this. Simple but fun. No reset button though, you have to refresh the page to play again.
Flasherjaz 1: Great ripple effect on the water, beautifully done.
Flasherjaz 2: This is so eyecatching. Kind of rough and urban looking. Jerky, but that’s intentional and it works well. Such a surprise when you mouse over.
Gecko: Interesting colours, purple isn’t used very much. Plain and simple, but the name isn’t easy to read.
Hojo: Great pixel work, and well animated too. Reminds me of an old computer game.
Clownstaples: Another footer you can spent a long time playing. Great interactivity. The drawing of the wheel isn’t fantastic, but the overall playability is excellent.
Eyezberg: Very funny to play with, especially as each eye can move independantly. Well thought out.
WhoIsT0m: Nice idea, but I expected it to do more…
Noxious: Very good effect, again using the eyes. Clever use of cookies to customise to how you like it.
M_Andrews808: Absolutely brilliant. A shoutbox and a chat room all in a footer. Marvellous work, really great. A lot of thought has gone into this.
Denacioust 1: Runs quite slowly, but awesome work on the 3D helix.
Denacioust 2: Again runs very slowly, but great artwork and coding.
Flash Fool: Bright and colourful, but the buttons are misleading by not being clickable.
Ilyas 1: Wonderful scripted explosions, I hate to think how few lines of code this took. Smooth and clear. Fantastic.
Ilyas 2: Very cool, you can shake the text and make it do all kinds of weird things.
LostinBeta: Very clever use of Rnadom functions, although it did tell me I was a nerd. Clear and quick. Also amusing. Not too sure about no definition on the face.
Syko 1: Nice metallic interface, well drawn.
Syko 2: Nicely scripted, but isn’t too great at following the mouse.
M660: Overall look is very nice, and so is the side animation, but it jumps back to the beginning, and isn’t a smooth loop.
Soul: Lovely colours and Photoshop work in the background. Soothing to look at.
Telekenisis 1: Very intense! But some great work on this with good transitions.
Telekenisis 2: Nothing if not patriotic. Well coded to fit in 9K. Bright and stands out on a page.
Mlkdesign 1: Really bright and colourful, the spinning star is very eyecatching.
Mlkdesign 2: Again, so full of colour. I’d like to see this interactive in some way.
that’s a lot of crits! :o
glad ppl like mine
pom: Maybe I guess I could put it on my list of tut’s to do on my site… it’s very basic really…
I know, it was the only way I could think of to be fair in my selection. Otherwise I knew I’d forget what half of them were… :sure:
Hehehe, seems no one liked my faceless person
Oddly enough, that is what I liked best about my footer. I think that’s funny
