OK I think I figured it out…
You can’t give a value to something that the timeline hasn’t reached yet.
Ie:
you can’t in frame 1 say a “My.text” box = "this"
and expect the “My.text” box that is on frame 5 to recieve this value.
Is this correct ?
I think so because flash doesn’t know where the text box called My is. I believe you have to put the code on the same frame.

You can set a var in first frame and use it through the whole movie…
You can’t set a .text the same way…
Doesn’t matter… I am happy to create a var in the first frame for the .text to call on…
Note:
In a attempt to find the problem I did file save as…
I then butchered the file back down to the very basics because
there is a lot of code in a number of movies accessing PHP and acting on it.
I didn’t know if there was something in there interfering with it…
Ahhh “save as”… doesn’t save the file I was working on, which had about 20min of coding in it since the last save…
And there is only so many undo’s for the butchered one…
So once again, another stupid little NOOB problem has cost me 
PS:
I was only about 5-6 undos away from getting the code back…

Yeah well I hate being stupid…
Its not the first time I have been caught out that way and it wont be the last. 
I will have to make a chant… “Save” then “Save As”… “Save” then “Save As”…
