Gift guides always go straight to “stuff, ” but the best Mother’s Day gift I’ve done was just taking over a chore she hates for a month. For my mom, it was scheduling all the annoying appointments.
Look — “I’ll take over the annoying thing you hate” is the only Mother’s Day gift that doesn’t end up in a drawer by June. I did this for my mum one year and handled all the insurance/utility phone calls for a month, and she still talks about it like I performed witchcraft.
100% this. My mom still brings up the year I just became the “tech support + phone call guy” and dealt with the cable company for her like it was a heroic quest, which is hilarious because it cost me $0 and like two mildly annoying afternoons.
Lol “heroic quest” is so real — moms will hype up the most boring customer support saga like you stormed Mordor. I did the same thing with my mom’s iCloud storage once and she still tells people I “fixed the internet. ”
My aunt still introduces me as “the one who saved the printer, ” and it was literally just turning it off and on again. It’s kind of sweet how the story grows every time it gets retold.
Lol family tech support lore is immortal — next year you’ll be “the one who rebuilt the office network” for unplugging a cable.
