So, if your a flash developer, you might be like me and completely fed up with the whole “HTML5 is going to replace flash” debate. I’m not so disillusioned to believe that there aren’t instances where it would be wise to use html5 over flash, and I’m a firm believer in using the right tool for the right job, however there are still several things that flash can do that html5 can’t and for that reason it will be around for a long time. This hysteria is getting out of control when I’m having uneducated people asking when I’m going to be making the switch to HTML5 and they think I’m not on the cutting edge when I say “I’m not”.
So I’m seeking the help of all flash developers everywhere to compile a definitive list of things that you can do with flash that you can’t do with HTML5. Then I’d like to post this list as a challenge to see if HTML5 wizards could really do the things we say it can’t or not.
I’ll start it off:
- In flash I can create a bitmap of anything on the stage and then encode and export out that image as a jpeg/png and enabling us to create advanced photo editing tools online.
