Transparent buttons/dreamweaver

I made a button in fireworks and photoshop just to see. I made the canvas transparent and saved as png. I was told this would make only the button come on to dreamweaver page once i insert it. But, when i insert it on a layer so that i can move it around; it still shows up with a background color(gray). When i insert the fireworks png button on the page without the layer, then it comes up the right way with just the button. But i can’t move it around on my page. Help, what am i doing wrong??
