Tutorials and external .swf

I appreciete the time and effort put into this site, its a real life saver for me. I have been going through the various tutorials, in hopes of discovering how to do this: ‘www.johnpawson.com’. I think this tutorial Preloader** and Transition for Dynamic Files is what Im looking for, but I have a few questions.

In the Pawson site, I assume each page (that is linked to a text line) is an external .swf loading into a movieclip with a preloader. I know there is some Javascript, but I intend to do something similiar using only Flash.

Now, in the tutorials, where exactly are the external .swf stored and coming from? I really have a basic understanding of website logistics, so what are the basic terms I should be dealing with. Am I on track by comparing the tutorial with the website?

Will I have to create each external .swf file in Flash, then simply link them to the buttons (text)? All of the pages aline with eachother, at least under each column, so are there guides and rulers I can use in Flash?

You all can see I am a fairly good newbie, so could someone straighten me out here and point me in the right direction.

Thanks for the help!
