Two separate FLVs right next to eachother

So, there is a Flash site project I’ll be working on soon, which has a home page that consists of a menu on the right, and a quick little “presentation”-style movie on the left. Now, I heard somebody say that, since these are two different “things” happening at the same time, it’s best to build them as separate Flash files and just place them right next to each other on the page.

This didn’t really make sense to me, and I haven’t heard of people doing this before. If there really is a reason for doing that, could somebody please explain it to me, or maybe just point me in the right direction to learn more about it?

Or, am I right in being confused by that?
