Hi, i have 2 questions… on this site (which has won site of the week here before)

there are 2 things I would like to know how I should do. One being the way the gargoyle thingy appears (mask??) and Two, how to get the lines to grow like that? is that AS? or mask or both or what? I dont know… well thanks in advance for any reply
