So I went to Best Buy to get some questions answered, and I thought, why the hell aren’t I asking my K-forum brethren first!? So, with no help from BB, here’s my deal:
I just acquired a pretty old eMachine box for free. I figured since I work on a mac, it’d be nice to have a pc on standby just to check cross platform compatibility of site designs, cuz I’m sick of using other peoples. So I figure I can beef this pig up.
All I want it to do is check websites via my existing cable internet. So the bare minimum will do, I’m not looking to invest bigtime into this hog.
Heres it’s specs (don’t laugh:D):
-windows 98 (I’ll upgrade to xp if need be)
-466MHz Intel Celeron
-4.3GB HD
-32MB ram (ouch!) can add up to 256.
-has no ethernet port
So I know I need an ethernet port, additional ram, a router for my existing modem, and hopefully thats it. Can this thing handle this?
So can anyone give me any tips, advice, brandnames, good prices etc.
I’m sure I can rig all this up easily, even though I’m not that tech savvy.
