I wouldn’t think you need seperate forums for each group. Maybe groups can make their own threads and chat.
I agree, lots of groups on every topic would suck. Maybe you have to have 5 or 10 members willing to join before the group can be created. Or it just has to be on a topic that other people will be interested in.
Well, this gives a definite place that people of the same interest can “hang out” and discuss their interests. But the bad side to this, is that the usergroups may at one point overwhelm the forum to the point that the normal forums would be overshadowed and ignored.
So Kirupa, you should really take a thought about this.
so what’s the point of this? seems like the only thing driving it are people’s desires to become mod-like.
Personally I could care less about being a group leader. I just think user groups would be a cool addition to the forums. I can see where you are getting that idea from though:look:
But what’s wrong with giving some of the power hungry teeny-boppers a taste of authority:lol: Lol just had to say that runs for the hills:bounce:
I agree - after looking through the technicalities of this, this has bad idea written all over it. There are enough forums to cover any of the topics that you want. If there aren’t any forums to cover your particular topic, maybe that topic isn’t a popular one for the forums and/or there are other forums better suited for it outside of kVille
I’d say keep the forums as is. People could really get distracted from the entire forum. It’s a really good idea, just like WorldsLargestForum.com tried to do, and nothing worked out at all.
Its not that. (-: It just that some groups of people (hence ‘usergroups’) have common interests. Topics such as electric engineering, or C++ or C# don’t exactly have, or should, their own forum. Rather, if say 15+ users want a ‘guild’ to discuss matters related to the topic… they could. (if I am understanding things correctly)
Edit: Alright… after reading the latest posts, I give up
The forums ouwl have to be rearranged as well. And I can imagine a bunch of people trying to get cllubs going - just for teh sake of having mod powers…
How about this, a SELECT amount of groups, and a FEW people that could actually moderate them. If people just want to start a group, tough, 'cause they’ll have to go through kirupa to do so. I’d say give this a shot. But I still call dibs on the 3d group.
Yeah I don’t like the idea of having private forums, that’s just too much work for mods/admins. It’s also unnecessary for groups that have like 10-12 ppl. Making your own thread would be enough IMO.
