Hi There,
We’re looking for an artist with the correct style to take on a short commission for us to develop a small range of icons for usage in the New Zealand market. The style we like is clean, contemporary, identifiable and a little bit of fun (but not childish). The choice of colour palatte is essential, whilst appealing to a broad demographic. Graphics must utilise block colours (strictly no gradient) and limited complexity with a restrained colour palette. We are interested in seeing portfolios ranging from ‘nature inspired tribal designs’, ‘silhoutte art’, ‘simplified character design’ etc…
If you would like to see the general angle we are looking at, then help yourself to look at my ‘favourites’ on Deviant: [link] At this time, we are particularly impressed with the work in my favourites of: *boum, ~tora28142 & j3fton. Use this as inspiration, as we are willing to follow an artists flair, and this set of images has been put together to assist you designers in the thought flow.
For those interested in the commission, can you please submit a portfolio of work, give us an indication in price to generate 10 vector illustrations of items of our choosing, but all in a similar genre. Please quote in USD or NZD. All quotes must be for a ‘er file’ base… some will be 15mins, some may take you a few hours. We are not publicising our budget, as we respect the integrity of each artist to value their work accordingly. The icons will be:
Kiwi Bird
Pukeko (NZ Bird)
Whale
Dolphin
Sheep
Tiki (Maori Statue)
Fantail (NZ Bird)
Pohutukawa (NZ Flower)
Jandals (Flip Flops)
NZ Map
The commission is purely for the icons, and basic background designs and colour palettes. Local print set/layout designers will be used to take the vectors to manufacturing specs.
Upon selection of artist, a full Non Disclosure agreement will be put in place, as well as a clear contract of work. This is a new business with seed capital in place to launch a range of products. The business strategy is long term, with a broadening of ‘ranges’ and moving into additional markets. Thus, it is expected that quotations are tight (to ensure a succesful business launch), and committed as it is expected that the commissioned artist will be involved in future projects.
There is potential for a contract to be put in place which involved on-going royalty fees to the artist, based on sales (we are looking at a high turnover tourist product line), or alternatively a complete handover of file ownership.
Submission closes in 14days (1st Feb 2009), and delivery of work is for mid-March - although an on-going client/artist relationship will be in place. Manufacture is set to commence in June 2009, with a major product fair launch in Sept 2009.
You can contact me directly at office@kamakura.co.nz. (Note that [link] has no involvement in this project, it’s just another business we own and the most useful communication thread).
This is a totally genuine offer of work, once a fee is agreed we will place a 20% deposit with you (probably Paypal works best), 40% upon our sign off of grpahics (watermarked JPGs), and the final 40% upon delivery of the vector files.
We look forward to hearing from you…
Regards,
Todd Welling
Director
