Visual Studio 2005

hi.

i got the BETA 2 release of visual studion 2005 team edition.

i created a few basic things, just from relating to the knowlegde i have with actionscript (which is limited:P)

i can NOT find any good tutorial resources anywhere. can someone please recommend some?

i am particularly looking for a tutorial on how to compose and send an email, the content of which being a mix of variables and text

NOTE: please dont say MSDN - because that site is way broken. They expect you to know all the terminology of programming, to have an IQ somewhere around the region of 600, and that you know everything about their program interface (which is frankly idiotic, because if you did, then why would you be searching for tutorials)

plus, its the first place i checked :stuck_out_tongue:

thanx in advance,
Decfor

EDIT: im only 14, so please, lamens terms :stuck_out_tongue:

My first question was going to be ‘are you 14?’, but you obviously answered that well.

As far as I know, Visual Studio is used to develop C++, etc, and nothing AS related for that’s Adobe (Macromedia) language. I suggest you buy a book.

btw, I don’t think you have an IQ of 600.

thanks a lot for your “help”

but i wasnt referring to the fact that i have an IQ of 600. i was stating that i DONT have an IQ of 600, thats why i cant understand the MSDN tutorials

and visual studio is NOT just used to develop C++. it is used for a variety of languages, including Visual J#, Visual C#.

when i said from my knowledge of actionscript, i meant that i could work out how to use if statements, variables, and operators, as they are similar in all programming lanuguages, and as for “My first question was going to be ‘are you 14?’, but you obviously answered that well.” that was just blatently abnoxious.

people come to forums for help

if you cant help em, dont blam em.

there was a time when you needed other’s help. if you were as rude in asking them for help, its no wonder that you cant even read the “complex” scentences like “They expect you to know all the terminology of programming, to have an IQ somewhere around the region of 600” that a 14 year old can come out with!

and i’ll certainly think twice about looking in this forum for “help” again.

If you had an IQ of 600 you would be in MENSA also you would be the worlds smartest person. So i doubt your IQ is 600.

mkay? No need to get all hyper! He gave you an advice of what to do… That’s what you asked for right?

Max never gave a rude answer, he gave you a simple answer there was nothing wrong with it. Your the one with the problem mate.

Decfor, I’m sorry that I offended you, but my advice to you is still buy a book. I’m not understanding the point of Visual Studio here though, yes it can do the statements you described, but why do it in C++/C#/J when you can do it in flash…where it’s going to be used anyways?

Is there any reason you have the Beta 2 of the VS Team edition as opposed to the final version of Visual Studio (in Express form)?

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/

When you run the final release of the program, the first screen you will see will be a link for basic quick start tutorials. Also, in order to create a mail form, how familiar are you with programming? Because, if you find some of the MSDN tutorials complicated, you should certainly spend more time familiarizing yourself with basic programming concepts/terminology/examples/etc.

Anyhoo, if all you want to do is create a mailer without wishing to learn about how the thing works, this link should help: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sending+mail+C%23

:nat:

I’m more curious as to how you got a copy of that… seems to me it’s not exactly something a 14-year old could obtain…

lol  he could of got it if he was on the teting programme like I was but I recevied it like last october/september.

I have Visual Studio 2005 pro and to be honest there are tonnes of tutes out there I believe msdn now do video tutorials covering: c#, c++, j#, asp.net and vb

address is www.msdn.com

And get the express editions for a start you are using beta 2 everything fomr .net 2.0 to .net mobile…get the final releases and use express versions.

edit: to my knowledge they only gave out beta 2 professiona editions not team editions…could be wrong though :frowning:

kirupa, its not the programming code that is hard to understand, its the explanations behind it, and lets be fair - what use is code if you cant understand it.

sorry about flippin out like that… got some problems @ home n i took it out on forum, sorry guys

:worried:

and yes - i got the team edition from the MSDN beta experience, along with the new Live Mail, and windows Live messenger, and yes i got it ages ago, but at the time i REALLy could not program, were talking - didnt even know AS functions, so i never used it. then i saw it on my shelf a few days ago, n i installed it…

and kirupa - is the express edition free? im on a really tight budget (around $0.00…) And for the last time Seb - i was saying that i do NOT have an IQ of 600… lol

Only cause you edited your post :stuck_out_tongue:

I can answer that one. Yes, they are free. Here’s a link for confirmation:

Thanx zephyr, and seb, if you read the time that i edited my post, and the time that YOU posted, you’ll see that i edited mine 14 minutes before you posted yours :stuck_out_tongue:

You misunderstood him too bro, because he said it’s for developing “c++, etc”

The makes it quite obvious that the etc. refers to other application languages like C++, not privately owned scripting languages like ActionScript.

You got the software, but it’s useless if you don’t know any of the languages. This complex, feature-packed software will just get in the way of your learning process, IMO. (ESPECIALLY since it’s a beta and if you encounter a problem you won’t be able to be sure if it’s an error YOU made or an error in the program.) You have to start with the basics and read one of those extremely boring books.

What language are you interested in? First decide that and then get one of the Kirupians to recommend a book.

as a general help there is learnvisualstudio.net which is a site that has lots of videos to help you code. A good while back i was doing that and these really helped as the vids are super easy to follow.
There should be some videos to get you going on the express site as that was what led me to the vids in the first place. However that was visual basic so could help.

jeez these things are good, thanks!
