lol… its not a required course or anything, but i was a sculpture major up until last week, so i took this class “computers for object makers” as an elective cuz it seemed cool. we started out the year learning how to use photoshop, scan pictures, and write html. (snoooooooozzzzzzzzzzzeeee, soo third grade… hehe). then we jumped into 3d modeling proggys, which was good, because i got to discover two great proggys that i had never used before. then we started rapid prototyping form the models we made (which is way cool), and now we are finishing up by creating interactive sculptures and sites with QTVR or VRML. so my guess is that this stuff is used in the feild of sculptors. hahaha

I would email him, I don’t know how long he will be gone, but I’m sure he’d love to help you out if he has time. He is a great teacher as well…

"X3D, the next VRML standard, will replace VRML97. Standing for “Extensible 3D,” X3D will include a lightweight 3D runtime engine, a platform-independent 3D file format, and advanced XML integration. This standard is expected to be announce in the first quarter of 2000. For more information you can visit the X3D standards organization’s web site "
thanks rev, if i cant figure out how to use it by bedtime i’ll drop him a line :beam:
anyone who is interested, here is a sample of VRML code that my wonderful 3d Rhino just made for me from my stupid 3d world
wtf, everytime i try to post the thing in a reply, i get “no forum specified, please notify the webmaster”
try putting it in

without the spaces…

i figured out what was up, the text file was just WAY TOO HUGE. so here is just a snippet of the code… it is about 400x longer then that
HOLY CRAPOLIE GUYS, this stuff is wayyyyy cool. when i am done i will upload the thing and show you guys it. :beam: i love VRML
LOL!
looks like something i wouldn’t wanna get into
i changed my mind. i HATE vrml. it is the LANGUAGE FROM HELL.
cracks knuckles…
While pondering around a bookstore one day… I noticed a small book on sale… $5.00! What a deal! I picked it up… This was 8 years ago… The book? Virtus VRML… Oooo… Ahhh…
See… The problem I think you are facing is that you are looking at VRML from the coding aspect… Which can be daunting and unuseful… The rela purpose behind VRML is to take it’s core program… Virtus VRML Object Creation Utility… And then create the code from that to make a complete Virtual Reality house or museum that acted like a website…
But… The main program is like CAD… You can draw in it and create shapes and build house and stuff… You can assign pictures to the facets of the objects as in “jpg, png, gif” and all that kind of stuff… You could make picture frames with your picture in it… You could build a tv set with a small movie playing in it… The possibilities and dreams of that company were absolutly marvelous…
The factor? Speed… At the time… VRML was incredibly slow… And took 10+ minutes for every application to load for a 56k… But now that we seem to be getting in the broadband era and everything seems to be working out for the better… I think it’ll be coming back up later on…
Just imagine 3d cities that you can explore through and “online” shop in a way of virtual reality… Like it was a Doom III game… With graphis looking awesome and data just being loaded when needed so it would be fast…
That’s the dreams they had…
Too bad I threw the book in the corner of my room… It was of no use really… The architecture program they supplied was the epitomy of hell and the interface was choppy… I might be able to help you here and there golgi… But nothing really major… I’m a tad bit rusty in VRML
playamarz :player:
lol. well, to sum up this experience in VRML, i think it can be useful. but it’s also a pain in the buns to edit. i have been generating it with Rhinoceros, which is an awesome 3d proggy. i think i told you guys about it, but i dont remember. heheh. anyways, here is the final product. go here…

and go into the VRML section to download it. sorry if the site is poopey, its a rough draft type of thing. i just had to get it up for class. anywhoo, i zipped up the file taking it down from 12 megs to 3 megs, (phew!) so just download the zip, and install the plugin, and you should be all set. :beam: man, i think it’s TOTALLY fun to select the turn navigation key and just spin around for a while… hahah.
The vrml envrionment is very cool! navigating through it is kinda hard… still a nice thing though
yah, nav is a pain…lol. thanks for checkin it out cool-footer-man!
Looks good :), ain’t got a clue how to move around it properly lol, makes me think of morrowind sighs

Lol goodluck!!, u mite work faster if u was actaully revising n not chattin hehe. or u gonna leave it till the last hour
